Introduction:

Assam is the home of the rarest species of wild life, some of which are in the verge of extinction. Leaving aside a few places in Africa, there is perhaps no part of the world where such a variety of wild life exist.

The only national park in Assam situated in central Assam with an area of 435 sq. kms. It is the home of the great Unicorn (The Indian One Horn Rhinoceros). The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, rugged reeds, mellow marshes, elephant grass & shallow pools.

 

How to get there:

The distance from Guwahati airport is 220 Kms. and from Jorhat Airport is 96 Kms. There are regular bus service run  by Assam State Transport Corporation, Travel Agencies, tourist Taxis are also available. The nearest railhead is Furkating a distance of 75 Kms. from Kaziranga.

 

Where to stay:

There are many government and private tourist lodges available at a very nominal rates.

 

The Wild population:

One-horned rhinoceros, elephants, Indian bison, swamp deer, smabhar, hog deer, sloth bear, tiger, leopard, leopard cat, jungle cat, hog badger capped langur, hoolock, gibbon, jackal, pig, porcupine, python and birds like pelicans, ducks, geese, hornbills, ibis, cormorants, egrets, herons, black necked storks, lesser adjutants, ring-tailed fishing eagles.

 

Season Opened:

October to mid-April

 

Other attractions:

You can stroll through the lush coffee and rubber plantations or nearby Karbi Anglong. Or you can visit the Karbi villages, meet the Karbi people, observe their lifestyle. Or roam through the enchanting the tea gradens and watch how you get your daily cup  of tea. Documentary Film shows on wildlife can be arranged at the tourist lodge, on request.

Cotton in summer and Woolen in winter.

Average Rainfall: 160 cms.
Best Season: October to May.
