About the department of Obstetrics &
Gynaecology
The department of
Obstetrics & Gynecology was started in 1949 with Dr. R. G. Krishnan as
Professor and Dr. U. C. Bordoloi as Asst Professor. During the first 6
years the department was housed in the Berry White Medical School
campus. The department was shifted to the present campus in the year
of 1954. The present two storied building became ready for use in 1959.
The building provides space for 200 patients, six cabins, two labor
rooms, two operation theatres, a lecture hall, 2 seminar halls, one
museum, a sick baby clinic unit and an O.P.D complex. The department is
also running a Family Planning unit with Post Graduate training
facilities.
Initially the
department offered only undergraduate teaching . When Prof. U. P. Gupta
became the head he tried hard for opening of Post Graduate courses.
Post graduate degree and diploma courses in Obstetrics and Gynecology
started thereafter and the first batches qualified in 1967 - 1968.
Till now more than
hundred post graduate have been produced from this department who are
rendering services in this specialty all over India and abroad. Many
research papers have been published in various journals. |
